6th Annual White Linen Night in The Heights Promotes Local Faces, Local Flavor and Local Fun in The Historic Houston Heights
It’s time to break out your cool white threads and head to the historic Houston Heights for the 6th annual White Linen Night in The Heights, Saturday, August 4th from 6-10pm. This year’s theme “Local Faces, Local Flavor, Local Fun!” will shine the spotlight on artists, musicians and businesses that thrive in the eclectic Heights neighborhoods. This year’s event will be more streamlined as organizers try to focus on quality not quantity in the featured activities and participants at the event.
19th Street will as always be THE place to be for the evening. Patrons are invited to “Shop Crowd Free” from 10-6, but at 6 the street will start rocking’. The Fiesta stage at 226 recordings, 226 W. 19th will kick off the local music for the evening starting with Cavernous, TheTyburn Jig and Poor Pilate who will warm up the crowd for WLN headliner Runaway Sun at 8:30. Local favorite Lords of Kool will play further down the street on the Jubilee stage from 7-10pm.
Fashionistas will flock to the WLN Fashion Show sponsored by Bombay Sapphire and hosted by Channel 13’s Sonia Azaad with fashions from Jubilee, Replay on 19th, Langford Market, Casa Ramirez and more. The First Saturday Art Market will for the first time be on the street end-capping the festivities. Local artist Edgar Medina will have a “Pop-Up” Gallery at Langford Market for the evening.
White Oak will also be a hub for WLN frolicking. Fresh Arts will host an “Arts Pavilion” in the White Oak parking pavilion at 2904 White Oak. From 6-10 patrons will be entertained by performances from Mercury chamber orchestra, Suchu Dance Company, Mildred’s Umbrella theatre company and Kiki’s Sordid Sideshow burlesque clown performance. Heights Beatniks at 709 E. 11th St will be the headquarters for the Bombay Sapphire Lounge providing refreshment from the heat. Beatniks will also host a fashion show at 7:30 with clothing from Beatniks, La Camella and Hello-Lucky.
Once again this year White Linen Night will partner with multiple “pink charities” to promote breast cancer awareness as well as survivor services available in Houston. WLN revelers will notice a distinctive pink presence throughout the neighborhood as they enjoy the event. Local pink groups participating include The Houston Young Survival Coalition, Pink Phuree Dragon Boat Team, Be Bright Pink, Relay for Life in The Heights, Pink Angels Harley Team, Dreamers and the Bayou City Sisters Network.
